About Us
On a typical Sunday morning in 1939, a woman fainted during a church service at Vinton Baptist Church.
Without hesitation, members of the congregation rushed to help the woman.
But the impact of that day would go far beyond the woman they had helped.
17 men from that very congregation came together to form an organization that would serve the Town of Vinton in times of crisis.
From these humble beginnings, the Vinton First Aid Crew was born.
On October 5th, 1939, in the basement of Vinton Baptist Church, 17 members of the Advanced First Aid Class under the direction of O.P. Shilling
took their examinations and received their certificates.
Soon after, they voted to form an official First Aid Crew for the Town of Vinton - becoming one of the first 16 such organizations to form in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
From that day forward, the Vinton First Aid Crew has lived by a powerful motto:
A Helping Hand for Our Fellow Man
